it just decides to seemingly drop the drive randomly. Sometimes it can happen on a locally connected hard drive as well due to errors on the drive or using loopback or other network resources. Usually it is a network issue and a problem connecting/authenticating/etc to the destination storage or faulty/failing/misconfigured networking hardware. there is still quite a bit of available space on them (80+ gigs on each) and when they are connected and live, i can access files with no problem.
